Too close for comfort!

The aptly-name golden silk spider (Nephila clavipes)is ubiquitous around Florida’s natural areas. Often call golden orb silk-weaver or banana spider this species weaves a web that is quite large and intimidating, inspiring Tolkien images of Mirkwood. As an arachnophobe, I am surprise my fear allowed me to get this close!
